The end of October, I had the opportunity to attend a special screening of Tron at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The move Tron originally opened on July 9, 1982, the summer between my middle and high school years. I have to admit, I was not exactly enamored with the film. I enjoyed it, but also was very confused. Home computers and video games were still very much in their infancy and programming was a whole new language. However, I had grown to love the movie and was super excited when a sequel was finally announced 20-some odd years after the original release. I enjoyed Tron Legacy and was glad we make the trip to Seattle to see the movie in 3D at the IMAX Theatre. However, I felt Bruce Boxleitner should have had a much larger role in the film, after all, he is TRON! And I now wait impatiently for Tron 3. Hint-Hint, Disney. In addition, I also highly recommend Tron fans tune into Tron:Uprising. This animated series is state of the art, has spectacular and a bit edgy animation (a mix of Anime/Manga style), interesting story progression, great writing, and talented voice actors. It currently airs on Disney's XD channel. Check your local listings.

This past weekend, while Bruce was attending Armageddon Expo in Melbourne, Australia, he gave an interview where he talked about Tron, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Babylon 5, and Lantern City. Jumping to mark 05:30 in the video, he discusses the possibly of a Scarecrow and Mrs. King movie. Color me pleasantly surprised, because back in July, when I saw him at Pop Con LA, he told us fans, there would never be a Scarecrow and Mrs. King reunion movie. At the time, I disagreed with him. He's an actor and actors well. . . act! And I thought if the right person presented him with the story concept - he would do it. And the right person did present it to him. Kate Jackson has been back in contact with him after all these years. (And I am super, super excited that Kate contacted Bruce again). Now, all him and Kate need to do is pitch the idea to CBS. This is a dream-come-true. I have been wanting a reunion movie for 30 years and feel fans will finally get some closure. I also feel with Kate being the one pitching the idea, it will be done right. I know a lot of fans have concerns about it, but I have none. I have no doubt that the chemistry would still be there, I love their concept of a possible continuation of SMK, and I think this is exciting news. I hope and pray the idea gets picked up, after all, like Bruce said, "What was once old, is new again." Make it so, CBS, please! Received some unexpected but utterly delightful news today - on this the 29th Anniversary of Scarecrow and Mrs. King day. Tvshowsondvd posted an announcement from WB that the final and fourth season of Scarecrow and Mrs. King will be released on January 22, 2013. All I can add is YAY!!
Now available for pre-order on Amazon. Today is the 29 Anniversary of the premiere of Scarecrow and Mrs. King and just as I did for Chuck last week, I decided to write a list of my top 15 favorite Scarecrow and Mrs. King episodes. I would love to hear your thoughts. 15. Ship of Spies Lee and Amanda go undercover on a cruise ship for engaged couples and to maintain their cover—they get married!! Love the wedding kiss – how nervous they both seem, Lee leaning in for a second kiss, and finally the look of total surprise. I love how Lee pops-up in the milk cooler and how Amanda changes her mind about spending the weekend with her friend to go on a cruise with Lee. And of course, how Amanda saves the day by figuring out the clues. I also love the tag. In view of the fact, that today is the fifth anniversary of the premiere of Chuck – I thought I would celebrate by writing a list of my top ten favorite Chuck episodes. Egads! I just couldn’t do it – too many wonderful episodes to choose from – so I narrowed it down to my top fifteen favorites. I have no doubt everyone is going to have different viewpoints and favorites and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Warning: lots of spoilers!! 15. Chuck versus the Intersect (Pilot episode) This episode ranks up there with one of the best pilot episodes ever. It’s an incredibly strong, well-rounded episode –quirky with lots of exciting spy drama and does a great job setting up the characters and storyline for the up coming seasons. I was hooked. Bruce Boxleitner (Tron, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Babylon 5) is promoting a new Steampunk television series called “Bruce Boxleitner’s Lantern City." Steampunk artists and designers will have the opportunity to have their work featured on weekly episodes.
I have to admit, I never heard of Steampunk, so I had to "Google" it. According to Wikipedia, "Steampunk is a genre which originated during the 1980’s and early 1990’s, and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternative history, horror, and speculative fiction." To get in touch with Bruce Boxleitner follow him on Twitter or go to Lantern City to read how to submit your work and learn more about the show or become a citizen. I know. . . I know. . . wishful thinking. However, SMK Italian Fan Club started a petition for a reunion movie and I am sharing the link.
I would LOVE to see Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner together again. Heck, I would even settle for a Burger King commercial with both of them. I finished the third installment of my Chuck/Scarecrow and Mrs. King crossover stories, Chuck versus the Doppelganger. Again, this one can stand alone, although there are a couple references to the other stories.
Probably the final crossover story and the last fan fiction story for awhile with me being busy homeschooling and with Christmas break right around the corner. No, I am not thinking the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet—in my opinion, the best couple ever is Scarecrow and Mrs. King’s Lee and Amanda. There are three reasons why I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever; these reasons are fate, chemistry, and the natural progression of their relationship.
To begin with, I am firm believer in fate. On a train platform swarming with people, Lee grabbed Amanda from the crowd. Why her? And why did she agree to take the package? In addition, if she had been able to pass the package, their paths most likely would have never crossed again. Was it destiny? Yes, they were meant to be together. Moreover, what is more romantic then meeting your soulmate at a train station? The train symbolizes a journey—perhaps into a new facet of life, or a new relationship. It symbolizes a powerful force that is guiding like fate. A chance encounter at a train station changed both their lives. The second reason, I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever is their chemistry. I don’t think any couple from any television series had more chemistry then Bruce Boxleitner and Kate Jackson. They were never supposed to become a couple. In fact, in the original pilot script Amanda was married to Dean. How different the show would have been if Amanda was sneaking out on her husband, instead of my mother and sons and spending her evenings with the handsome spy. However, from the very beginning, there was an instant spark, unresolved sexual tension, and as a fan of the characters, I wanted to see them get together. Lee and Amanda were the first television characters I shipped. Shipping is derived from the word relationship. It is the belief two characters have romantic feelings towards each other and these feelings will lead to a potential relationship. Which leads into the third reason I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever, the natural progression of their relationship. One of the reasons I do not care for television today is the loose morals. How couples hop into bed without the development of being a couple first. Therefore, I could not care whether they stay together or not. Lee and Amanda’s relationship was slower, therefore more natural. Both coming from different worlds; he is Lee Stetson, one of the top federal agents in the country, a risk taker, a rule breaker, looking for the quick thrill, whether running in with the gun or cheap one-night stands. She is Amanda King, a homemaker, divorced mother of two small boys, whose days are filled with little league, Junior Trailblazers, bake sells, and PTA meeting. Lee thought of Amanda as an untrained civilian, a nuisance, a homemaker having no business being involved in the world of espionage. She thought of Lee as a skirt-chaser, insufferable, and ungrateful, yet what do they say about opposites attracting. Slowly Lee began to trust Amanda and began to rely on her instructs, and Amanda was able to see behind the ‘Scarecrow’ mask to find a caring, sensitive man, who would even risk treason for her. Reluctant partners brought together by an unlikely ‘emergency’, coworkers to partners, friends to best friends, strangers to falling in love with each other. Both believing they were content in their own worlds, neither looking for the other, yet a moment of desperation led to the ultimate declaration of love. It was pure magic! For these reasons, I believe Lee and Amanda are the best couple ever. Their relationship has always given me contentment, warm fuzzies, and intense joy. I just purchased my plane ticket to Atlanta, Georgia to attend DragonCon Labor Day weekend. This will be my second time attending DragonCon and my fifth con. I had an amazing time in 2008 with my baby sister, Cathy. I wish she were coming, too. I'll be meeting up with several girlfriends, and I’m really looking forward to spending the weekend with them and listening to panels, acquiring autographs and photos from some of my favorite actors, and attending writing workshops. I’m having a serious fangirl moment because I discovered Bruce Boxleitner and Adam Baldwin are supposed to be there. Squeal!! The only question I have is—when did I become a groupie?
I’m reposting for Narelle who wanted all the details about the SMK reunion I attended back in 2008.
The Event: The 25th Anniversary of Scarecrow and Mrs. King. The Location: The Beverly Garland Hotel in Burbank, California. When: October 3-4, 2008 Fans got the opportunity to visit with SMK cast members and I was one of the lucky few! It was also a chance to meet many of my online friends, who share my addiction to SMK. Thursday I flew from Seattle to Burbank Thursday afternoon where I was picked up at the airport by the lovely Jen V. She took me to the Beverly Garland Hotel where I checked in, sharing a room with Buffy and Neeney. We hung at the pool for a while and then several girls and I took the subway to Hollywood Boulevard, we walked along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, found Beverly Garland’s star, viewed Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the famous hand-prints, walked past the Kodak Theatre, saw the famous “Hollywood” sign from the distance, and did some shopping. Then we took the subway back to the hotel for dinner. I saw this posting on another website this morning. I hope this is true and not some sick joke, but until I see presale orders on WBSHOP, Amazon, or TVSHOWSon DVD.com I won't get too excitied (although all fingers and toes are crossed).
Press Release Webwire – Wednesday, December 08, 2010 – Burbank, CA – Dashing secret agent Lee Stetson (Bruce Boxleitner) and single-mom-turned-amateur-spy Amanda King (Kate Jackson) are back for another entertaining season of crime-stopping adventures on “Scarecrow & Mrs. King: The Complete Second Season,” to be released by Warner Home Video March 22, 2011. This title will feature all 23 one-hour episodes from the Emmy Award-winning series’ sophomore season and will retail for $39.98 SRP. Order due date has been set for February 15, 2011. American spy Lee Stetson and his housewife sidekick Mrs. Amanda King are really going places in Season Two, fighting the Cold War in London, Munich, Salzburg and the Caribbean! Kate Jackson (Charlie’s Angels) and Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) again play the mismatched operatives, mixing laughs, intrigue and battle-of-the-sexes verbal jabs. Amanda is targeted by a white-slavery ring. Lee and his mentor, dithery Lady Emily Farnsworth, hunt for stolen plans for a top-secret plane. Amanda is the other woman in a headline-grabbing sex scandal. And Mrs. King becomes Mrs. Scarecrow on a romantic wedding cruise, complete with veil, vows and smooch at the altar – all in the line of duty, of course! The Emmy Award-winning “Scarecrow & Mrs. King” first premiered in 1983 on CBS and aired for four successful seasons. “Fans of the show love Jackson and Boxleitner’s characters and the great chemistry they share on this series. Their wonderful performances, coupled with clever dialogue and entertaining story lines makes this one of the great, unforgettable shows of the 80s,” said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. “Fans have shown an overwhelmingly positive response to ‘Scarecrow & Mrs. King’ on DVD, so it gives us great pleasure to bring them another season of this highly-regarded series.” Can we say duh? Yes, we love this show and can't wait for the remaining seasons to be released. Update: Annoucement Woo-hoo!!!! I know some are not going to believe this, but I really don’t watch much television. Sure, I have my favorites, but I much rather read or write, so don’t be surprised when I say I never even heard of the television series Chuck until a friend of mine told me Bruce Boxleitner was going to have a guest role in season two, and I needed to watch the show.
So the summer before the beginning of the second season, I found the episodes on-line, watched them, and immediately fell in love with the show. Now, I’m a faithful Chuckaholic. Chuck is an action/comedy/romance hybrid television show, a lighthearted spy drama, mixed with comedy and romance. The show is witty, full of action, with a spark of romance. . . in lots of ways like Scarecrow and Mrs. King, but in reverse. You know, danger, excitement. . . intrigue. You have an average, ordinary civilian, dragged into the world of espionage by extraordinary circumstances, but instead of a package passed to him at a train station, he is passed government secrets via an opened email. |
